Memorial Day is about honoring those who served our country, but it’s also the kick-off to a summer of fun and adventure. The three-day weekend is the perfect way to squeeze in a little vacation time with the family and what better way to celebrate it than with a little fun in the sun, San Diego style?

When it comes to family fun, you can’t go wrong with a San Diego classic — SeaWorld! In addition to the rides, shows and marine animals, your little ones will love the Sesame Parade, a brand new parade featuring all of their favorite Sesame Street characters. Parades will be presented twice daily on weekends running May 5–June 24. While you are there, don’t forget to ride the brand new Electric Eel Ride, the tallest and fastest roller coaster in San Diego, opening May 10.

For patriotic fun, visit the USS Midway Museum aboard the legendary aircraft carrier for the Legacy Week Memorial Day celebrations. The holiday festivities run May 26–28, and include events such as a wreath ceremony, a benefit concert, an interactive Kids Adventure Discovery Zone and an opportunity to meet the veteran pilots of the planes on display. The museum is even helping visitors give back with a blood drive on Memorial Day. A standard museum ticket includes all activities available on the day of admission with the exception of the benefit concert. The Freedom Benefit Concert featuring the Gin Blossoms is on May 26 at 6 p.m. and requires a separate ticket through Ticketmaster.

For some good old-fashioned, fun head to Belmont Park, where there is something for every member of the family. Located right on Mission Beach, this historic amusement park has everything in one place. Enjoy the fresh ocean air with roller coasters, midway carnival games, rock climbing or zip lining — you can even do yoga at sunset. If you prefer indoor fun there is laser tag, an escape room and plenty of shopping along the boardwalk. Tickets can be purchased individually for each ride and attraction or you can buy a pass for the whole day and enjoy the rides again and again. Whether you want to indulge in carnival food like corn dogs and pretzels or sit back and enjoy some oceanfront sushi, Belmont Park has food options for every appetite.

Whichever way you choose to spend your Memorial Day weekend in San Diego, your family will thank you for the fun and the memories.
