Nothing says family on Mother’s Day like Mom and daughter bonding, and this year the Oetker Collection’s Jumby Bay Island, a 300-acre private island two miles north of Antigua in the West Indies, created a Mothers & Daughters package that packs in carefully curated amenities and activities designed to make the most of together time.
The property is accessible only by boat, and offers guests a mix of luxe amenities and laid-back, Caribbean charm, complete with sandy white beaches and tropical flora. Nature buffs can keep an eye out for local wildlife, like sheep, white egrets and blue pelicans, and Pasture Beach, on the island’s windward side, is a protected nesting site of the endangered Hawksbill Sea Turtle.
The five-night Mothers & Daughters package includes accommodations for two and daily, hour-long private fitness classes from a menu that includes yoga, Pilates, bootcamp on the beach and meditation.
As a reward for all that hard work, the package also includes a daily spa treatment with a personal spa concierge, as well as a wellness cooking demonstration and a private dinner for two.
Moms and daughters can take advantage of waterskiing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling at the property, as well as unlimited use of the resort’s bicycles, two pools, three tennis courts, fitness center and yoga pavilion.
If your daughter is old enough, you can also enjoy a rum history lesson and a glass of wine at the private Sunset Cocktail Cruise.
Finally, top off the evening with a White Night Beach Barbecue served on The Verandah.
The Mother & Daughters package is available May 1–31, and rates are based upon double occupancy and begin at $4,350, not including accommodations, which start at $1,550 per night.
Of course, you can broaden your family vacation to include the male members of your family, especially over Memorial Day. Activities that weekend include the annual Caribbean-style Memorial Day Beach Barbecue and ice cream social, classic movies screened on the beach, use of the resort’s bicycles to explore the island’s 300 acres, not to mention plenty of waterskiing, windsurfing, wakeboarding, kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling. The Memorial Day activities are open to all guests during Memorial Day weekend and are not tied to a specific package — so there is no additional price attached.
In all, Jumby Bay Island features seven restaurants and bars, beachfront suites and an ocean-front infinity pool, as well as winding paths lined with palm trees for walking or biking.
