VisitEngland is getting serious about fun with a new travel campaign aimed at luring families with preschoolers to England. The campaign stars Peppa Pig from the award-winning British children’s animated television series, and even youngsters on this side of the pond who might not be familiar with the character can get in on the fun by getting to know him on the new online hub on VisitEngland’s website.
There are 25 experiences for young children and their families, all inspired by Peppa’s adventures from the show. Families can explore via clips on the microsite, and there’s a map pinpointing the location of Peppa’s various adventures.
“We want to inspire young families to follow in the footsteps of their favorite character and go on fun filled year-round adventures across England. From getting outdoors to jump in muddy puddles in thousand-year-old forests, to singing along to favorite songs and camping under the stars at their first music festival, there are amazing family-friendly experiences right across the country,” said Clare Mullin, director, VisitEngland.
Best of all, because the campaign is aimed at preschool children, many of the adventures are available into the shoulder season, allowing families to avoid the more crowded — and expensive — peak summer periods.
The 25 adventures are divided into five suggestions from each member of Peppa’s family, geared toward the activities someone of the same age might enjoy. For example, Peppa’s top five (play day at a museum, jump in muddy puddles in a forest, go paddling in the sea, get crafty in an art gallery and sing and dance at a festival) and brother George Pig’s top five (be king or queen at a castle, spot creepy crawlies at a nature reserve, hunt for dinosaurs at a museum, splash about at a water park and enjoy an ice cream on a pier) are specifically kid-friendly.
Mummy Pig’s top five (have a picnic at a stately home, get competitive at crazy golf, surround yourself with flowers at a garden, sing along at a theater show and ride on the top deck of a tour bus) and Daddy Pig’s choices (drift along a canal on a boating holiday, build a sandcastle bigger than you, go camping in the countryside, listen to your voice echo in a cave and see how high you can fly a kite) work in some adult appeal.
Grandparents are not forgotten, with Granny and Grandpa’s top five (go on a steam train journey, go rockpooling, be a strawberry farmer for a day, eat cakes at afternoon tea and visit a petting farm). Each activity is accompanied by a link to information on how and where to participate in these activities, and some also feature video clips of Peppa and his family on similar adventures.
