We were hooked as soon as we heard “pop-up roller-skating rink” at Pelham House Resort, beachside in Dennis Port on Cape Cod, Massachusetts. Here, guests can spin into winter with the new Skate the Cape getaway. Along with an overnight stay in luxury accommodations, there’s plenty of skating fun and live music at The Rink.

Through March, the Cape-centric escape includes one night in an ocean-view room, a $50 food and beverage credit good at The Rink or The Rooftop restaurant, roller skate rentals and one 45- minute skating session for each guest. Skate sizes include adult and kids ages 6 and up.

“The Rink at Pelham House Resort is ready to welcome guests and locals to spin, dance, and create unforgettable memories as the ultimate roller-skating hotspot [sic] on Cape Cod,” said John McCarthy, managing partner, Pelham Hospitality.

During the holiday season, themed nights include décor, special menu items at The Restaurant, and beverages such as Blades of Glory and the Rudolph Rickey. After the New Year, themes will include Barbie. And, if all those Moonwalks and Grapevine moves have worked up an appetite, take a break for Maple Brook Farms burrata salad, fried green beans or a jumbo crab cake sandwich. The 1900s-era resort has great views of Nantucket Sound, 33 guestrooms, a private beach, an outdoor pool and three dining options.

Some of Europe’s Best Day Cruises

A week cruising along the Danube or the Rhine may be the stuff of dreams for many, but family travelers can enjoy views from the water in ways kinder to the family budget. Many riverside cities offer scenic cruises, and some Baltic or Mediterranean ports have daytrips to nearby islands or coastal attractions. In several cities you can cruise the canals, and in Switzerland you can spend a day cruising on Lake Geneva, with sightseeing stops in lakeside towns.

United Continues Its Global Expansion

United Airlines keeps soaring to new heights, recently announcing another expansion of its leading global route network. The airline added new non-stop flights between Newark (EWR) and Marrakesh (RAK), Morocco; Tokyo (NRT) and Cebu (CEB), Philippines; and Houston (IAH) and Medellin (MDE), Colombia. That’s not all: United also plans to increase flights to popular worldwide destinations including Hong Kong (HKG); Seoul (INC), South Korea; and Porto (OPO), Portugal. Following the recent agreement to increase flights between the U.S. and Chinese governments, the airline now adds four weekly flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Shanghai (PVG).
