Travel Tips

Using your vacation time for family travel is so simple and straightforward — so why are so few Americans doing it? According to The Family Travel Association’s Family Travel Survey (2018, focusing on families with at least one child under 17 in their household), more than half (58 percent) of employees with paid time off aren’t using all of it.

The survey also revealed 24 percent said they used less than half of their paid time off. With all of this vacation time still on the table, FTA encourages families to use it with the #TakeFamilyTime campaign — and with 71 percent of those surveyed saying “travel is an important part of my child(ren)’s education” and “travel has changed my relationship with my children for the better,” it seems the people have spoken, and agree.

“It’s disconcerting to all of us at the FTA, that despite the clear and stated benefits of traveling as a family, so many adults don’t prioritize the financial and time investment,” said Rainer Jenss, founder, FTA.

Through a series of monthly campaigns and social media engagement, the FTA showcases its different participating members and partners in ways that can help families #TakeFamilyTime.

“In this way, our members will be speaking with one voice as much as possible, and the FTA can then amplify those voices, and cross-promote that content within and outside the organization,” Jenss said.

Sound like something your family can get behind? Take the pledge here and make the most of your paid vacation time.

Just in time for National Plan for Vacation Day Jan. 28, follow along with the FTA and stay tuned for more information, offers and campaign events that can help your family travel more this year. Explore your options here and make 2020 the most family-friendly year yet.
