A new dinosaur-themed water park opens in Farmington, New Mexico, later this summer and it’s the perfect fit for families who’re fans of Jurassic Park or dinos of all types. Bisti Bay Water Park gets its name from the Bisti Badlands and De-Na-Zin Wilderness Area, a nearby attraction that was historically a dinosaur-filled swamp. Active families can visit the new water park at Brookside Park in Farmington for interactive fun for all ages.

What can you expect at the new park? So far, plans include a lazy river, perfect for some relaxation; interactive playgrounds with water guns and water buckets; twin, 26-foot water slides; a small lap pool; a zero-depth entry pool; ninja ladders; a toddler-friendly small slide and water table for new swimmers; three shaded pavilions for drying off; event facilities; and food trucks for local cuisine on the go. It’s all themed around dinosaurs and dinosaur digs, with a special focus on the Jurassic period; special attention is given to other local attractions, like the area’s hoodoos (undulating rock formations) and Shiprock Pinnacle.

“Farmington is the place where outdoor lovers and active families thrive, as well as the place where history is celebrated year-round,” said Cory Styron, director of outdoor recreation, City of Farmington. “With a visit to the Bisti Bay Water Park, families can learn about the area, while cooling off and enjoying quality time together in a unique setting. Bisti Bay celebrates our outdoor activities [and] our one-of-a-kind landscapes and generates curiosity about our area to captivate interest and encourage kids of all ages to get outdoors and learn about history, geology and culture.”

Farmington is known for its deep history and proximity to national parks like the Bisti Badlands. As such, there are loads of outdoor activities to enjoy both before and after your family’s visit to Bisti Bay. The best part? Just about every activity you come across will have something to do with dinosaurs or history.

“Most visitors to Farmington are outdoor lovers, adventure seekers and those who enjoy an active day of exploring,” said Tonya Stinson, executive director, Farmington Convention and Visitors Bureau. “The new Bisti Bay Water Park will be a perfect addition to the itineraries of these travelers, and will provide additional fun and excitement for families. With interactive elements for all ages, as well as water play and relaxation options for adults, we know Bisti Bay will prove to be a memorable experience for all who visit. Additionally, it’s a chance for families in the nearby area to plan a fun water park getaway without months of saving and planning, while still enjoying the community-minded nature of Farmington and out-of-the-classroom learning.”
