Destinations / North America

As another summer movie blockbuster wraps in Fallon, Nevada, the state’s tourism board has more than a few ways to get in on the action. For your thrill-seeking family, head to Nevada for a Top Gun experience.

Top Gun: Maverick finished filming in summer 2019 and will showcase some of the region’s most iconic landscape, landmarks and adventure opportunities when the film premieres this summer. Get ahead of the game and plan for an adrenaline-inducing trip of your own, where it all went down.

Fly a Fighter Jet

Easily one of the most iconic aspects of Top Gun, flying a fighter jet isn’t just for the movie stars and stunt doubles. Sky Combat Ace is available in a few locations, offering the Top Gun Experience, which includes a 2.5-hour flight with rolls, loops and stalls, spins and more. The experience gives guests the chance to pilot a fighter jet (no experience necessary) with the help of an experienced instructor pilot. Guests must be 80–300 pounds to fly, and for two guests flying at a time, no more than 450 pounds combined.

See the Sights by Balloon

While flying a fighter jet offers great views, there’s a less Maverick way of doing it. Book a Vegas Balloon Rides tour to see the Nevada landscape from high above the ground. Guests observe Nevada’s stunning mountainous terrain, vast desert and vibrant colors with a bird’s-eye view, but without all the twists and turns of a fighter jet. Prices begin at $125 for children aged 6–14, and $199 for adults 15 and older.

Blast off in a Jetpack

It’s 2020, we were promised jetpacks by now — and Jetpack America offers just that. Located in Pahrump, 50 miles from Las Vegas, travelers can fly high over Lake Spring Mountain before lowering in for a refreshing splash. Fly for up to 60 minutes and reach heights of 30–40 feet above the water’s surface. Almost all ages can join, beginning with kid-friendly rides for children as young as 5.

The surrounding area also offers great hiking, golfing and camping if your crew has more adventure left in them. Plan for an adventurous getaway with your Maverick crew and check out hotels here and more to do and see.

Interior Upgrades Begin Rolling Out Across United Fleet

United Airlines is in the midst of a major initiative to modernize its fleet over the next several years. After first announcing the plan in 2021, planes fitted with United’s signature interior are finally beginning to appear across the airline’s narrowbody fleet of Boeing and Airbus planes. United flyers are sure to notice these enhancements from the moment they step on board: Each new or updated plane sports remodeled seats, seatback entertainment screens for everyone, Bluetooth connectivity and more, all adding up to a better experience on every journey.
