If you want a fall destination that is a bit of a break from the norm, consider putting South Korea on your travel plans. The country is quickly coming into its own as a tourism hot spot, and there is a lot to explore. Like with any country, there are great places to visit depending on what time of year it is and what your interests are, but if fall is your favorite time to travel, we’ve got you covered.
Seoul
South Korea’s capital city is probably its most well-known destination, but don’t let its popularity intimidate you. The city has plenty to see and do all year, but in the fall, nature is at its most beautiful as the seasons begin to change. Many streets are lined with gingko trees, and as they turn yellow, they turn the city into a beautiful landscape. You’ll find great urban nature escapes around the city and if you visit Namsan Mountain, you can enjoy panoramic views of the city and the beautiful nature interspersed throughout it.
Gyeongju
The city of Gyeongju is a great place to visit if you want to get away from the busy capital city. You can pass time shopping or munching on local bites, but fall is a great time to explore the city’s parks and archaeological sites. The city is very walkable, and there is so much to see, the city has been dubbed a “museum with no walls.”
Jeju Island
On Jeju Island, foliage changes color later in the season, so if you want to get an autumn experience on an island, you’ll want to head to this beautiful spot. It’s South Korea’s largest island and home to a unique geography and culture that earned it status as a UNESCO World Heritage site, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve and a UNESCO Global Geopark. The peak for fall foliage is usually in mid-November, but the island is beautiful anytime of year, and all autumn long.
