Ride a 50-foot Ferris wheel in seats shaped like giant baseballs, feed a giraffe, visit the original Ford Model T assembly plant or travel back in time at Greenfield Village — Detroit has something for every family traveler.

Detroit Zoo
Kids always want to head to the African habitats at Detroit Zoo to see lions, rhinos, hippos, zebras and giraffes. More African animals, including chimpanzees and silverback gorillas, live in the ape habitat, and elsewhere they’ll find camels, tigers, sloths, giraffes, polar bears, penguins and red pandas. Special experiences allow families to feed giraffes or meet penguins close up.

Detroit Tigers Ballpark
Part ballpark, part baseball-themed amusement park, part baseball museum, Comerica Park is home to the Detroit Tigers, whose history is highlighted in exhibits along the main concourse. Kids can ride brightly colored tigers on the carousel behind first base and climb into baseball-shaped seats on the 50-foot Ferris wheel in the third-base section. On Sundays, kids 14 and under ride free on both, and can run the bases after home games. A huge fireworks show follows Friday home games.

Home of the Model T Ford
The iconic Model T, the car that revolutionized the entire auto industry, originated in Ford’s Piquette Avenue Plant in Detroit. Visitors can walk through the plant and learn how the idea of assembly lines transformed manufacturing. Original machinery and more than 65 rare vehicles bring Motor City’s great era to life. Along with early Fords are examples of Ford’s competitors including Cadillac, Oldsmobile, Packard, Studebaker, Dodge and others.

Greenfield Village
Travel the streets of Greenfield Village in a steam-powered locomotive or a real Model T as you explore its seven historic districts. Something is always happening at Firestone Farm, and kids are always fascinated by the roundhouse. The carousel and craft demonstrations in Liberty Craftworks are favorites, and the playground is designed to echo a 1930s construction site, with an interactive steam shovel and a 20-foot-long boiler tunnel among its features.
