Let family travels take you to one of these stunning aquariums around the United States. Recently, Aquarium Store Depot analyzed TripAdvisor reviews containing words such as beautiful, breathtaking and picturesque for 175 public aquariums across America. Each aquarium ranked based on the percentage of reviews to determine the most eye-catching aquariums.
Landing at the top of the list is Belle Isle Aquarium in Detroit, Michigan. The study found 30.7 percent of the reviews contain a keyword describing its beauty. Belle Isle Aquarium first opened in 1904 and is one of the oldest aquariums in America. The historic building is home to more than 200 different saltwater and freshwater species from all over the world.
Butterfly House & Aquarium in Sioux Falls, South Dakota, came in second for most beautiful aquarium. The only public saltwater aquarium in the country, it hosts hundreds of species of fish and coral. Check out the Under the Dock exhibit where you can see species like yellow stingrays, horseshoe hawkfish and princess Parrotfish.
Coming in third is Birch Aquarium in La Jolla, California. Established in 1903, the aquarium went through a series of relocations before establishing itself at its current location at University of California, San Diego. Also known as Scripps Aquarium, it features a wide selection of marine life including a Loggerhead sea turtle and giant Pacific octopus.
Point Defiance Zoo & Aquarium in Tacoma, Washington, is the fourth most beautiful aquarium in America, according to the study. Point Defiance features species from the Pacific Ocean and animals such as the scalloped hammerhead shark and giant Pacific octopus.
Lastly, coming in fifth, is Seacoast Science Center in Rye, New Hampshire. Seacoast Science Center showcases species from the Gulf of Maine and more. Exhibits include tropical reef habitats, interactive edge of seas touch tanks and a whale exhibition.
