Age Specific / Kids

No matter how old your kids are, parents will always treasure something handmade. This is especially true when kids are too young to buy anything and their creations are adorable.

Cards

The simplest craft kids can make for dad on Father’s Day is a card. Cards go a long way in showing kids’ creativity and allowing them to craft something special.

Use any kind of art supplies you have lying around. Crayons, colored pencils, markers and finger paints all work wonders for creating a card. Older kids can cut out construction paper and make something a little more substantial.

Bookmarks

If dad is a big reader, creating a bookmark out of construction paper and other supplies is a fun craft for kids. It’s a little more personalized than a card and can incorporate elements from dad’s favorite books or memories. Mom can get the creation laminated afterward to strengthen the bookmark.

Pottery

For a fun mix of commercial and handmade gifts, go to a paint-your-own pottery studio. These, most notably Color Me Mine, take the hard work out of pottery and let kids paint a piece of their own. These range from decorative pieces, to seasonal items to utilitarian pieces. Mugs and pencil cups are popular and, if painted by kids, make a great gift. Set aside about two hours for ample painting time, at least a week before Father’s Day, so the studio has time to finish glazing.

Luggage Tags

For traveling families, something heartfelt to differentiate luggage is a great idea. These can range from handmade tags to luggage handles. In addition to being thoughtful and homemade, this gift will remind dad of this Father’s Day every time he checks his luggage.

When it comes to avenues for creating gifts for Father’s Day, the possibilities are endless. Bake cookies or cupcakes and decorate with some of dad’s favorite things, create a book of drawings, or even collect a bunch of childhood artwork and bind it in a book. This same trend goes with creating a montage of family photos.

Finally, kids who are old enough can offer to help out with yard work and other routine chores around the house. Pitching in will definitely mean a lot to dad, even if he doesn’t get that coveted handmade card.
