London is one of those cities you can visit for weeks and never see it all — there is just so much to explore. Bring the family for the first, second or third time and you’ll still find something new.
Whether you’ve already seen all the top spots like Buckingham Palace and the Tower of London and want something different the next time around, or your family is just looking for a few more stops on your quintessential London vacation, we can help.
Check out a few typical London experiences your family might have missed.
Tea Time
Anyone with an interest in English culture knows the British love their tea. Experience the old favorite with a visit to Twinings Cafe on Strand. The flagship store has been a local hot spot since 1837, after some renovations and upgrades to the original store, opened back in 1706. Taste the beloved British tea for yourselves with this classic, but often overlooked London experience.
A Day at the Races
Another English favorite: horse racing. After you’ve had your fill of tea, bring the family to Kempton Park Racecourse for some thrilling competition. Horse racing and caretaking is a time-old tradition for the English, and this particular field dates back to 1878. Experience a race with the kids, or place your bets in the new casino with the adult children.
Kayaking on the Thames
The River Thames is an iconic locale of the city, running through London’s famous corners and historic neighborhoods. Take in the city from a different perspective, riverside, kayaking along the Thames. Paddle by the Houses of Parliament, Little Venice and right by the long lines (or queue) for the London Eye. Several kayaking, canoeing and boating rentals are available in the area, including Kayaking London and Moo Canoes.
Street Art
Head to famous street-art neighborhoods in East London for a unique look at the city’s diverse arts scene. Take a self-guided tour through Hackney, or let the experts be your guide with options through Shoreditch.
Clink Prison Museum
For something a little more off the beaten path, London’s Clink Prison Museum is a fun and spooky way to spend the day. Located by the South Bank, this 12th-century prison was in operation through the 18th century and comes with a long, sorted history. Explore the city’s darker side with the kids with help of the expert actors leading the tour.
