The 5-star Hotel du Collectionneur in Paris dates from 1925 and celebrates its Art Deco design throughout, especially its ebony details, its jade green and black granite, bronze bas relief, the lighting and the decorative wrought iron railings in the monumental staircase. The serene and luxe rooms feel as if they are on an ocean liner, circa 1930. Among the 478 accommodations, there are 92 executive rooms, 52 suites, plus rooms with private terraces; some rooms have views of the interior garden, bordered by a glass pergola, some, of the Tour Eiffel. Situated in the posh 8th arrondissement, the hotel is near the famous Champs Elysées, the Arc de Triomphe and the chic boutiques along rue du Faubourg Saint-Honoré.

I visited in mid-September 2018 for the debut of Le Collectionneur, a newly renovated restaurant with a curvilinear, sculptural bleached sycamore ceiling. Siblings Andréa and Edouard Cohen, raised in the art-filled world of hospitality, contributed their individual talents to the project, which encompasses the restaurant, bar and three private dining roomswhich serve 240, and a patio and two terraces, with seats for 150. Architect Edouard Cohen — with his Architect-Uncle Alexandre Danan (formerly with Jacques Garcia) — brought construction and craftsmanship expertise; interior designer, Andrea Cohen, CEO of The Gate Collection, which includes The Watergate, in Washington, D.C., introduced haut de gamme style.

Every effort is made to please little ones, especially when it comes to food. There’s a child-oriented breakfast buffet, child-friendly lunches, birthday parties (on demand), special sweets made by the pastry chef and Tea Time, designed for little “collectors.”

The hotel also provides non-edible amenities for youngsters: There’s a mascot, Lucky White, the horse; balloons; and the spa offers special nail services and foot massages for princes and princesses aged 7-12.

The location is family-friendly and adjacent to an indoor lap pool and a short walk from the mansion-lined Parc Monceau, with its walking paths and playgrounds. The Musée Cernuschi, (Museum of Asian Arts) and the stunning house museum, Musée Nissim de Camondo, c. 1911 abut the park. A nearby shuttle bus (244) travels directly to the architecturally splendiferous Fondation Louis Vuitton, adjacent to the Jardin d’Acclimation, the 47-acre children’s amusement park. Both venues are within the grand Parisian park, Bois de Boulogne, for boat rentals and horseback riding. The Eiffel Tower, Bateaux Mouches and the hop-on-hop-off Batobus boatrides on the Seine and the famous Tuileries Gardens are easy to reach.
