Even the most doting mom can benefit from some alone time, but, for some of us, even an uninterrupted bubble bath is a rare treat. How about taking relaxation one step further with a solo trip designed specifically for R&R? We’re not talking about a bustling resort where you’ll be the only one on your own and where your single room is an afterthought tucked in a less than ideal part of the resort. Instead, Mexico’s Hotel Esencia, on the eastern peak of the Yucatan Peninsula, originally the private home of an Italian duchess, is launching restorative spa and wellness experiences specifically tailored to solo travelers.

Designed to promote self-care, these new three- and five-night Solo Para Mí packages, Just for Me, make the most of the property’s serene location on Xpu-ha — one of the undeveloped shores on the Riviera Maya and amid 50 acres of private jungle.

The package experience begins with a Copal Incense Cleansing Ritual and 30-minute meditation, followed by spa workshops, where guests can learn to create their own natural lotions and potions using traditional local herbs.

The retreats also incorporate signature healing and regenerating rituals from the Esencia Spa; a 60-minute consultation with one of the spa experts to customize spa treatments; daily private yoga classes at the hotel’s open-air palapa; cooking lessons incorporating local spices and flavors; and Caribbean reef snorkeling sessions — the property is located near a reef sanctuary for sea turtles and exotic fish — led by a trained water sports team.

The Esencia Spa treatment menu includes such options as a Stress Relief Ritual, an ancient Mayan recipe, incorporating mint, pepper, cloves and rosemary applied using hot therapy on specific stress points; a Deep Relaxation treatment with herbal compresses; and a locally inspired Lime Ritual, incorporating the alternate use of limes with massage strokes.

The spa itself is housed under a traditional thatched roof palapa, designed to promote a mix of modern wellbeing with ancient customs.

Guests who want to explore off-property can arrange solo excursions with the help of hotel staff, and activities can include everything from diving and deep-sea fishing to horseback riding, kiteboarding and paddleboarding.

The solo package is priced from $3,232 for three nights; from $5,371 for five nights, and both include daily á la carte breakfast, lunch and dinner, with all soft drinks and freshly squeezed juices and smoothies.

The property is located 50 minutes from Cancún and 30 from Tulum, and accommodations are spread out from the Main House along footpaths leading to 42 suites and three villas.

Dining options include the Beefbar Esencia with meats from around the world; Mistura, for alfresco, grilled seafood; and Cafe Esencia for casual fare served between the pools and the beach.
