Family travelers looking to take full advantage of the upcoming fall season, Cabarrus County, North Carolina, is just the place to be. Ranging across the country’s five communities of Concord, Harrisburg, Kannapolis, Midland and Mount Pleasant, the county is a true autumn lover’s dream, from pumpkin patches and hayrides to haunted stories and Oktoberfest celebrations.
Known as the site of the first documented gold discovery in the United States, Reed Gold Mine State Historic Site in Midland debuts Reed Glow Mine, where 25,000 lights illuminate the mine and surrounding grounds, creating a glow-in-the-dark experience for all visitors. Families can venture through the light-filled mine, follow colorful walking paths and try illuminated gem panning during the one-night-only event. Advance tickets ($5 per person) are required.
