With travel picking up again in different parts of the world, it’s time to start planning your #ComeBacktoTravel vacation. If you are looking to book through a travel agent or company, consider supporting one of these black-owned travel businesses:
Henderson Travel Service was the first African American travel agency and still operates six decades later. Henderson Travel was started to promote travel to Europe and, soon after, to Africa. The creators wanted to provide a safe way for African Americans to travel across borders. Henderson Travel Service provides a full range of travel services, tours and tourism development consulting.
TTraVsperience is a unique travel experience made specifically for the Black Girl Travel Movement, LLC., which allows its guests to experience the healing power of travel. Throughout the travel experience, you will connect with yourself and practice self-care while exploring some of the most sought-out destinations in the world.
Destination Impact gives you the opportunity to explore a new destination while giving back to the local community at the same time; experience the beauty of Haiti and volunteer at an orphanage. It prides itself on non-traditional travel experiences, taking you to places you never thought you’d see. Destination Impact takes revenue from the adventure packages and puts it toward resources and services for schools.
World Smart focuses on providing opportunities for underprivileged and underrepresented high school students to expand their horizons through study abroad programs. World Smart was formed from a passion of education and the way travel to new places cultivates opportunities for learning. The foundation hopes to enrich students, provide a foundation for healthier communities and produce globally minded leaders.
Tastemakers Africa’s slogan is “travel Africa, skip, mediocre.” This company takes you further than African safaris. Tastemakers Africa designs itineraries that focus on interacting with locals and culture through art, music and cuisine. Explore places like Lagos, Dakar and Accra, and engage in authentic activities led by locals.
Black Girls Travel Too is curated toward empowering women of color to feel comfortable going out and discovering the world on their own. This Instagram sensation was created by Danny Rivers Mitchell to demonstrate the endless possibilities that exist for women of color. Explore the world on a group tour through places like Barbados, Cuba, and more while connecting with others.
Founded in 2011, Urban Events Global is a secret gem that will help you explore the world. The group has more than 50,000 members, made up predominantly of people of color who love to go out and explore the world, including on exotic trips and international travel. Become one with nature and join the crew’s yearly camping trip or set sail on a luxurious yearly cruise. This fun-loving group is perfect for travelers looking for adventure and luxury.
After experiencing trouble booking accommodations for some trips, founders Rohan Gilkes and Zakiyyah Myers set out to create Innclusive, an online booking site for people of all backgrounds. They wanted everyone to be able to travel the world and stay in accommodations that make them feel comfortable. Innclusive’s goal is to provide a platform where people of all backgrounds can travel the world with respect, dignity and love.
