Age Specific / Multigenerational

With everyone stuck at home for the past year, it’s no surprise travelers are itching to hit the road and skies now that travel is making a comeback. With this desperate need for a change of scenery, Americans are interested in getting outside with adventurous activities, according to a recent study done by battleface, a travel insurance disruptor.

About 39 percent of Americans have either booked or plan to book an international trip by the end of 2021 or 2022; 72 percent have either looked into purchasing or have purchased travel insurance, which shows people are more inclined to protect their trips due to the pandemic.

The study also showed younger Americans are looking to travel internationally, with about 63 percent of 18–24-year-olds and half of 25–34-year-olds planning on it. compared to the 31 percent of those aged 45–64.

For younger travelers, adventure travel is the greatest interest, as well as seeking culture, wellness, relaxation and visiting friends and family. Hiking seems to be the most popular activity (30 percent) when it comes to outdoor travel plans. Other popular activities include fishing, camping, backpacking and sailing. Overall, about three-fourths of Americans traveling internationally in the next year or so plan on doing some sort of adventure.

Overall, Mexico is the most popular destination Americans plan to visit, followed by the Bahamas, Italy, Canada and Germany. The study suggests Mexico is especially popular among those aged 35–44.
