Germany is home to many underrated treasures, offering family travelers incredible fun and adventure, and Hamburg comprises one of these German locations that definitely should not be missed. This summer, make sure Hamburg is on your travel agenda so your family can enjoy these incredible activities.
Hamburg consists of a bed of waterways and canals representing the lifeblood of the city. Get out and enjoy the fresh air with a cruise exploring the city from the beautiful Alster, a tributary of the Elbe River. The views from the water let you take in the city’s distinct architecture and natural beauty. A perfect option for a pleasant summer evening is to take a twilight tour, letting you enjoy the scenery amid a sea of twinkling nights as night falls across the city.
Hamburg is steeped in culture and the city hosts many festivals and street fairs throughout the summer to highlight different aspects of the city’s charm and take advantage of the beautiful weather. From film and art festivals to food and music festivals, summer is festival season, and there is something for everyone. Festivals are spread around the city and can last anywhere from one day, like the contemporary music festival Spektrum in August, to several weeks like the Altonale Festival, which offers two weeks of music, literature, dance and street art around the neighborhood of Altona.
Discover the city’s culinary heritage with a gastronomy tour, which introduces you to some of the city’s most memorable flavors. Tours of trendy neighborhoods, such as St. Georg and Schanzenviertel, familiarize you not only with the local foods of the city but also with the neighborhoods themselves, giving you a glimpse into the everyday life of the locals.
