3 Reasons to Visit Cancún This Winter

As winter sets in, many family travelers prepare for a long season of cold, cloudy skies. Cancún, on the coast of southeast Mexico’s Yucatan Peninsula, offers the perfect solution for anyone looking to escape the gloom for warm weather and exotic adventures. Read on for three reasons why Cancún should be at the top of your list as you plan your winter vacation plans.

Amazing Weather

The semi-tropical climate keeps Cancún warm and sunny year-round, but in the summer months, temperatures can get quite warm and uncomfortable. In the winter months, however, the temperatures get hot enough to enjoy the beautiful beaches and cool down with pleasant breezes in the evenings.

This lets you enjoy water sports, sunbathing and unique adventures like Underwater Museum of Art, a collection of sculptures decorating the sea floor that can be visited either by diving or by glass-bottom boat. The scenes depict everyday objects and people engaging in daily activities, such as standing in groups, sitting at tables and sitting on a couch watching television.

Culture and History

The area surrounding Cancún is rich in local history and culture. Pleasant temperatures of the winter months make it ideal for exploring. While it may be hard to tear yourself away from the sun-drenched, sandy beaches, there is plenty to see in the area, like the nearby Mayan ruins of Chichén Itzá, the ruins at Tulum and the town of Chicxulub, at the center of the Chicxulub Crater, the impact site of the asteroid that ended the reign of the dinosaurs.

Local Dining and Shopping

It’s no secret one of the best ways to learn about a destination is through its food and its markets, and Cancún is no exception to this rule. The local cuisine runs the gamut from upscale dining to street food, offering something for everyone, with flavors incorporating local produce and seafood into menus paying homage to the region’s Mayan heritage. There are also plenty of opportunities to shop for local handicrafts and souvenirs at one of Cancún’s many flea markets, like Mercado 28, which offers everything under the sun.
