2023 Happenings in Virginia Beach

Virginia Beach, Virginia, has plenty to offer family travelers next year. The city celebrates its 60th anniversary in 2023 with festivals, activities, new hotels and restaurants, and anniversary celebrations.

New Hotels

Embassy Suites Virginia Beach Oceanfront Hotel plans to open in February 2023. In addition to Cavalier Resort, the hotel will offer 157 luxury suites and 10,000 square feet of meeting and event space. The Moxy at Virginia Beach is slated for a summer 2023 debut. The seven-story property will feature 134 ocean-front guestrooms.

 

Festivals

The 26th annual Virginia Arts Festival takes place throughout the month of May. Venues around the city host an eclectic mix of performing artists. Virginia Beach hosts the Jackalope Festival for the first time. The three-day event includes competitions and demonstrations from athletes in the worlds of skateboarding, BASE jumping, breakdancing and bouldering. The event takes place June 2–4.

Activities

Virginia Beach Sports Center hosts the Division II Men’s and Women’s NCAA Indoor Track and Field Championships March 10–13. The Virginia Beach Convention Center hosts the immersive Beyond Van Gogh exhibit July 1–Aug. 13.

 

New Food and Beverage Offerings

All Good Craft Granola Café is set to open in January. The restaurant repurposes spent grains from local craft breweries in its products. Waterman Spirits, a new distillery, is the first in the country to use an organic, coral-filtered process for its vodka production.

 

Anniversaries

In addition to the city’s 60th anniversary, other locales celebrate milestones in 2023: TASTE (50 years), Virginia Beach Sportsplex (25 years), and Sandler Center for the Performing Arts (15 years).

United Continues Its Global Expansion

United Airlines keeps soaring to new heights, recently announcing another expansion of its leading global route network. The airline added new non-stop flights between Newark (EWR) and Marrakesh (RAK), Morocco; Tokyo (NRT) and Cebu (CEB), Philippines; and Houston (IAH) and Medellin (MDE), Colombia. That’s not all: United also plans to increase flights to popular worldwide destinations including Hong Kong (HKG); Seoul (INC), South Korea; and Porto (OPO), Portugal. Following the recent agreement to increase flights between the U.S. and Chinese governments, the airline now adds four weekly flights from Los Angeles (LAX) to Shanghai (PVG).

United Airlines Celebrates its First Class of United Aviate Graduates

America’s Longest Zip Line Opens

Thrill-seeking parents and older kids can ride America’s longest span of zip line this summer when Catamount Mountain Resort opens the “Cata-monster.” More than 1 mile long, this aerial span is the final in a series of three zip lines that descend from the mountain summit to the base. Family members can travel side by side on the dual lines or race each other to the bottom.
