Ski season is in full swing at Southern California’s mountain resorts, making them perfect options for family travelers looking for a mid-season vacay. At Mammoth Mountain, one of the most popular resorts for skiing, snowboarding and anyone looking for some snowy fun, there are plenty of reasons to put this destination on your radar thanks to all the new upgrades they underwent to gear up for the season.

In line with the state’s energy conservation efforts, Mammoth Mountain invested $5 million in new snow-making equipment. Since California mountains don’t typically see enough natural snowfall to sustain a full ski season, so local resorts make their own, ensuring plenty of the soft stuff is available for all types of winter activities. Mammoth’s new, state-of-the-art equipment aims to reduce the amount of energy used in the process of making snow.

This guarantees visitors can always enjoy the wintertime activities Mammoth has to offer, such as downhill skiing, cross-country skiing, snowboarding, snowmobiling and snowshoeing. You can also explore the mountain with guided tours, either on skis or seated in the comfort of the heated cabin of a snowcat.

There are also plenty of activities for non-skiers at Mammoth Mountain, and some of those received some upgrades this season, as well, such as Woolly’s Tube Park, which now features expanded tubing lanes, a larger parking area and plenty of snow-filled play space for building snowmen and sledding.

For added excitement off the slopes, Mammoth Mountain also looks forward to welcoming Vulcania, an Italian-American eatery from sibling celebrity chefs Bryan and Michael Voltaggio, expecting to open in Mammoth Village in February.
