Family travelers visiting Tokyo can enjoy some of the most creative activities and attractions in the world, but through 2023, they can also enjoy a truly unique form of art museum at teamLab Planets. Located in the city’s Toyosu area, this immersive art exhibit by the teamLabs team aims to dissolve the boundaries between art, nature, technology and science.
The museum features four different rooms and two gardens, designed to create an ethereal experience in which you can become one with the world around you. Meant to be explored barefoot, the museum represents a unique approach to art and self-expression.
The design spaces are surrounded with mirrors, creating an infinity room illusion that has become quite popular in art installations, and for good reason. The effect is both serene and invigorating, letting you play with the boundaries of your perception of reality. While experiencing the exhibits with others, the infinity illusion creates the sense you are all alone when experiencing the brilliant colors of the installations.
Rooms like the Floating Flour Garden and the Falling Universe of Flowers create the effect of walking through a garden of exotic flowers that are not only hanging from above but that also seem to be floating up from the mirrored floors, making you feel as if you are floating through a garden of color and light.
Tickets should be purchased in advance online and cost approximately $25 for adults, approximately $15 for teenagers aged 13–17, and approximately $8 for kids aged 4–12.
