Spas can provide a relaxing time for mothers and daughters to connect and enjoy the luxury of being pampered. If you’re considering adding a spa experience to your family travels or taking a mother-daughter spa getaway with your teenager, here are some things to think about first:
Age Restrictions
Many spas do not allow anyone under 18, while others welcome those 16 and over. Most allowing younger children require a parent to be present. Be sure to ask about the spa’s policy before booking your visit.
Appropriate Akin Treatments
Not all spa treatments are suited to young skin. Facials with scrubs or deep exfoliations are not recommended and may be harmful, and detox or firming facials are unnecessary for teens. Not all products are good for teenage skin, so be sure to talk to the therapist or when making the reservation to be sure they can use products approved for teens. Some spas welcoming teens have special treatments including consultation on skin care and makeup.
Massages
Teens experience plenty of stress, so they can benefit from light neck, shoulder and back massages; check to make sure any oils used are good for teenage skin. Discuss with your teen what is involved in massages before booking. Many teens are especially self-conscious; and although therapists are careful to respect modesty, many young people are not comfortable with that degree of exposure.
Manicures and Pedicures
These are ideal spa experiences for teens, especially younger ones not ready for facials or massages. And some spas that do not welcome teens make exceptions for these treatments.
Other Spa Experiences
Most spas offer more than treatments, providing access to Jacuzzis, whirlpools, waterfall pools, experience showers and hammams; plus, there’s usually a pool for swimming.
