Visiting Alaska’s expansive land, wild terrain and incredible natural beauty is just a family cruise away. Small group tour company Tauck launches an all-new Alaska’s Inside Passage tour, sailing in 2019. Round up the family, pack your weather-proof gear and venture along the scenic shore of Alaska with Tauck’s all-inclusive cruise and family tour.

With so much to do and see, the six daily shore excursion options onboard Tauck’s new itinerary please the whole crew.

Sailings extend eight days, south from Juneau to Vancouver, departing July 20 and Aug. 3, with northbound excursions departing July 27. All three departures by Tauck tours set sail on Ponant’s 240-passenger vessel, Le Soleal.

While the remote wilderness and incredible wildlife of Alaska should be on most avid travelers’ bucket lists, Tauck helps with a variety of must-see and -do activities with multiple shore excursions.

Shore Excursion Options

Guests can choose a 30-minute tour of Skagway by streetcar — complete with a scenic ride through White Pass’s narrow-gauge railway and historic town.

Another option for curious travelers, explore Alaska and Canada’s Yukon with a visit to the local wildlife museum, nearby native village of Carcross, the Dog Musher’s Village and the Saskatchewan’s Royal Canadian Mounted Police Heritage Center.

Or, skip the car ride and opt for a vintage rail car riding to Fraser, British Columbia, ending at Bernard Lake for a day out on the kayak.

If the first three don’t sound like your thing, choose a rail journey to White Pass Summit, continuing through Fraser, and the Yukon Suspension Bridge for lunch at Jewell Gardens — located on a historic pioneer farm.

A trip to Alaska’s narrow passage may not be complete without whale watching and sea lion sighting excursions. Through Tauck’s Alaska’s Inside Passage, guests opt to whale watch and keep an eye out for local sea lions during the 75-minute cruise to Glacier Point, before hopping off for a short canoe trip and hike along the glacier’s shadow.

Lastly, but certainly not least, guests drive from Skagway by way of an all-terrain vehicle to ride on a weather-ready dogsled at the local dog musher’s camp, including some one-on-one time with the sled dog puppies after the ride.

While the list of shore activities is vast, so is the family fun onboard Le Soleal. While the ship may seem small in size, both for travel necessity and convenience, the vessel boasts a sea of amenities and comforts. Enjoy the incredibly scenic trip, as nearly any space above deck offers a front-row seat to view waterfalls, wildlife and epic glaciers.

With all-inclusive pricing, guests enjoy all excursions for around $6,990 per person, including airfare. Also included, all onboard beer, house wine and spirits for adults, as well as all gratuities, port charges and airport transfers.

United flyers are sure to notice these enhancements from the moment they step on board: Each new or updated plane sports remodeled seats, seatback entertainment screens for everyone, Bluetooth connectivity and more, all adding up to a better experience on every journey.

Some of Europe’s Best Day Cruises

A week cruising along the Danube or the Rhine may be the stuff of dreams for many, but family travelers can enjoy views from the water in ways kinder to the family budget. Many riverside cities offer scenic cruises, and some Baltic or Mediterranean ports have daytrips to nearby islands or coastal attractions. In several cities you can cruise the canals, and in Switzerland you can spend a day cruising on Lake Geneva, with sightseeing stops in lakeside towns.
