Fall is the wonderful time of year: Families love to come together to enjoy bonfires, apple picking, hayrides and a trip to the pumpkin patch. Linvilla Orchards in Media, Pennsylvania, has a plethora of fun fall activities for every age group to enjoy.

Situated on 300 acres of farmland, Arthur Linvilla and his mother purchased the farm in 1914. With the sales of fresh milk, cream and fruit, the farm’s popularity grew and the Linvilla family decided to open the Farm Market in the large Octagonal Barn. They added a bakery and fun gift shop to round out the friendly, welcoming farm. Unfortunately, in 2002, the uniquely shaped barn market burned down in a fire and a new, larger market was built to accommodate the growing visitors who come every year.

During the fall season, an influx of families come to enjoy all the fun fall activities the farm provides — most of it free or a small fee. Pumpkinland is the main attraction you will notice as you enter the farm. Mountains of brightly colored pumpkins of all shapes and sizes surround large scarecrow displays. This area is completely free to walk around in and have a fall photo shoot.

In the same area, families can jump onto a hayride for $6 per person for a scenic ride around the farm. For $9 each, families can take a night hayride to the friendly witch’s house. The ride ends at a site with campfires, s’mores supplies and apple cider to sip on, all included in your $9 fee.

For hands-on fun, families can slingshot apples far into a field. Targets are set up to practice your aim. Three apples cost $1 or a bucket of 20 apples will cost you $5. Also practicing your aim, you can try your luck at the pumpkin ring toss to win a small pumpkin. Ten tries will cost you $1.

A fall farm would not be complete without a maze. Linvilla Orchards has two for visitors to choose from. The straw bale maze is targeted for younger kids while the 2.5-acre corn maze is for the whole family to enjoy. Each maze costs $4 individually or $7 for both.

Families can also visit the barnyard animals, which include horses, sheep, goats, white tailed deer and a pot-bellied pig, or play on the Playland playground for free. Live music can be enjoyed near the face painting tent and pony rides.

As for food, Linvilla has a spread of warm and cold foods to enjoy. Cheeseburgers, pizza, hot dogs, chicken nuggets and fries can be found at the Linvilla Grill. Other food tents include the famous apple cider donuts, apple cider slushies, roasted corn, candy apples, funnel cake, blooming onions and more.

Before you depart from the farm, make sure to stop in at the market for apple cider, fresh pies, artisan cheese, jams, spices and other wonderful groceries you can only find there. The garden center is close by to check out the cute fall decorations, gifts, candles and plants for sale.

Linvilla Orchards is the perfect place to enjoy autumn weather with the whole family. Activities for all ages keep the family entertained for the entire day while creating lasting memories.
