Airbnb released the top 15 trending destinations for family travel this year. The results are based on data taken from recent guest arrival numbers at family-friendly listings on the website, outlining the amenities families look for when booking a trip, as well as the most popular destinations.
Osaka, Japan, took first place, followed by Kyoto. Melbourne, Australia; Malibu, California; Reykjavik, Iceland; Princeville, Kauai, Hawai’i; The Big Island, Hawai’i; Bordeaux, France; and Fortaleza, Brazil were also in the top 10.
An accompanying survey revealed 43 percent of families preferred traveling to a new destination each year, while 45 percent said they like a mix of old and new.
The survey also outlined other recent trends in family travel. It showed there’s been an increase in multigenerational trips, with 34 percent of families traveling with grandparents. Half of the people surveyed said they wanted spacious accommodations that could house multiple guests and friends. Perhaps most surprising was how many people said cultural and educational opportunities were more important than WiFi access.
Seventy-five percent said beach or coastal getaways are preferable, and top amenities searched for included pools, hot tubs, WiFi and kitchens.
