With Halloween around the corner, it’s time to start planning your spooky family travels. Westgate Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Resort offers a spooky stay in a historical haunted area. While Myrtle Beach boasts its fair share of scares at highly entertaining haunted attractions, the real thrill of frights lies in wait for guests of the resort to brave.

Legends of nearby haunted locales are so popular, Westgate Resorts made a list of the top 10 spooky stops for travelers to get in the Halloween spirit. Keep reading to see if any of these spooky spots sound intriguing to you:

Alice Flagg’s Grave

Few South Carolina ghost legends have more staying power than the tale of Alice Flagg, whose final resting place can be visited at the All Saints Episcopal Church cemetery. According to the tale, the restless ghost of Alice roams the cemetery in a white dress, desperately searching for her lost engagement ring. For those who want to attract the spirit, legend says you just need to walk backward around the grave 13 times while saying her name out loud twice.

Brentwood Restaurant & Wine Bistro

Considered the most haunted restaurant in South Carolina, the Brentwood Restaurant in Little River is housed in the historic 1910 Queen Anne-style Essie May McCorsley House, and offers a special Ghost Dinner & Tour. Over the years, employees noticed strange occurrences such as objects moving on their own, glasses smashing on the floor, unexplained noises and even ghostly sights in the upstairs windows.

Lucas Bay Lights

Local legend claims the mysterious Lucas Bay Lights can frequently be seen in the swamp off Gilbert Road in Conway. It’s often said to be the ghost of the Civil War-era mother searching for her lost child who disappeared during a flash flood.

The Gray Man

One of the most popular South Carolina haunted legends is that of the Gray Man, who allegedly makes an appearance on the beach to warn local residents of upcoming hurricanes and other major storms.

Colonel Kolb’s Tomb

Both ghost hunters and Revolutionary War buffs alike may want to venture off the beaten path and visit the haunted tomb of Colonel Abel Kolb, who was shot and burned alive along with his family by British loyalists during the American Revolution. According to legend, at night, visitors can occasionally hear the sound of someone wandering through the woods or even see the apparition of Colonel Kolb himself.

Georgetown Lighthouse

The Georgetown Lighthouse is one of the most haunted lighthouses in South Carolina. The current lighthouse is the state’s oldest active lighthouse and is apparently home to several restless spirits. Visitors have reported the sounds of footsteps in the tower along with sightings of a ghost named Annie, the daughter of a lightkeeper who drowned in the surrounding water. Apparently, Annie’s ghost occasionally appears on the decks of nearby ships to warn sailors of coming storms.
