Carnival Cruise Line’s Celebration Key in Grand Bahama was recently certified as the first cruise destination to earn KultureCity’s prestigious sensory inclusion certification. KultureCity, a non-profit organization training staff and certifying venues with sensory-inclusive modifications, partnered with Carnival Cruise Line for six years.

Since opening, Celebration Key has welcomed more than 2 million guests, and the new certification means travelers with autism, dementia, PTSD and other sensory-processing disorders can enjoy the cruise destination, too.

More than 400 guest-facing team members at Celebration Key are trained to help guests with sensory needs navigate the unique environment and have fun. Complimentary guest sensory bags, complete with noise-reducing headphones, fidget tools, and glasses with filters to block-out strobe and bright lights, are available. Bags also include a V.I.P. lanyard with a headphone logo and light bulb symbol to discreetly signal to Carnival team members the guest may require additional support or accommodations. Non-verbal guests can utilize a feelings thermometer to point and communicate their emotions.

The new certification adds to Carnival Cruise Line’s fleetwide efforts implemented throughout its partnership with KultureCity, which also includes training shoreside call center representatives and shipboard staff.

Carnival Cruise Line celebrated World Autism Acceptance Month and the certification on April 2 with a sensory room pop-up at Celebration Key.

Best of Both Worlds

Enjoy the best of both worlds when you fly with TAP Air Portugal thanks to the Portugal Stopover program. With the program, TAP passengers, whether traveling for business, leisure or both, can stop in Portugal for up to 10 days at no additional airfare on the way to their final destination. What does this mean for travelers wishing to explore by both land and sea? It means after flying to Portugal with TAP and experiencing the country in an entirely new way, travelers can then embark on scenic river and ocean cruises from  Portugal’s port cities, or fly with TAP to another European destination.
