With sunny skies and mild weather expected this Earth Day in Jekyll Island, why not spend some quality family travel time at Jekyll Island Club Resort to not only celebrate the region’s beauty but also learn about the resort’s sustainable practices? Jekyll Island boasts miles of protected beaches, beautiful trails and historic sites for the whole family to enjoy.
“The Jekyll Island Club Resort is dedicated to operating sustainably and doing all we can to protect our natural resources,” said Douglas Rucker, area managing director, Noble House Hotels & Resort. “The developers of our historic property chose to build on Jekyll Island more than 130 years ago because of its immense beauty and natural wonders. As their inheritors, we have a duty to protect those things they loved and share them with future generations. We’re proud and humbled to do so.”

Here are some ways to celebrate nature during a stay at Jekyll Island Club Resort:
See the Sea Turtles
The protected beaches on the island serve as the perfect nesting grounds for several species of sea turtles. The sea turtles return to the place they were born each year to lay their eggs, with nesting season beginning at the end of April. Visitors can learn about the life of a sea turtle at Georgia Sea Turtle Center, located a short walk from Jekyll Island Club Resort. As Georgia’s only sea turtle education and rehabilitation center, guests can enjoy the center’s variety of interactive exhibits to learn about the sea turtle and its role in the ecosystem. At the rehabilitation side of the center, guests will meet turtles recovering from injuries or illness before they return to the ocean.

Car-Free Exploring
Jekyll Island isn’t that big of an island, and the resort lies near many pedestrian- and bike-friendly paths and trails to experience wildlife up close. With more than 20 miles of cycling trails linking the resort to key points of interest across the island, visitors can explore the island at their own leisure. Rent bikes at Jekyll Wheels, located on resort property, and head to Driftwood Beach, some of the many ruins dating back several centuries, or one of the many picnic areas under moss-filled oak trees.

Sunrise and Sunset Beach Walks
Witness the beaches at the most beautiful times during sunrise or sunset. Take a trip at dawn or sunset, bring a blanket with snacks and listen to the waves crashing against the shore as the sun appears or descends below the horizon. At sunset, The Wharf restaurant is the perfect spot to watch the sea bathe in a golden glow as the sun sets. At the island’s many beaches, hunt for seashells or simply lay back and relax.
