Becoming more environmentally conscious, getting active, lowering our carbon footprint and living more sustainably isn’t just on our radar for day to day, it extends to travel as well.
With companies like Country Walkers offering ways to give back while traveling, joining an excursion is a great opportunity to travel like a local, while doing some good along the away. Country Walkers is no novice to this concept — the walking adventure travel provider has been on the side of responsible tourism for decades, and now is a great time to get the family in on the fun.
Check out some of the ways you can travel with Country Walkers and see the world while giving back to local communities and supporting economies and ways of life, as well as conserving wildlife, protecting the environment and preserving indigenous cultures. They also created The Travelers Fund, which makes a donation on behalf of every traveler who books a specific tour.
Here’s a taste of what your family can get in on this year, with way more to choose from on the company’s website:
New Brunswick: Bay of Fundy & Campobello Island
The New Brunswick tour, created by Captain Mackie Green, supports trained teams in rescuing whales trapped in fish netting by providing expert-level training and equipment. In the meantime, guests enjoy fully guided tours (three–seven miles covered each day) through breathtaking natural parks and along stops in New Brunswick’s much-desired hot spots, including Saint Andrews, Saint John, St. Martin and the stunning Campobello Island.
Montana: Glacier National Park and Wyoming: Grand Teton & Yellowstone
Families can help conserve wildlife in the Rocky Mountains with a six-day tour through Glacier National Park in Montana, Grand Teton and Yellowstone in Wyoming, or all of the above. Benefitting the Yellowstone Yukon Conservation Initiative, these tours take guests between 4–11 miles each day (Glacier National Park) and two–six miles each day (Grand Teton and Yellowstone). No matter which tour you choose, each showcases the wild terrain, incredible natural beauty and varying wildlife of each park.
Québec: Québec City & the Saguenay Fjord
With a trek through Québec City and the Saguenay Fjord in Canada, families can support Fondation Sur La Pointe des Pieds (On the Tip of the Toes), which provides cancer patients aged 14–29 with therapeutic adventure travel. The Country Walkers tour boasts two–six-mile walks each day through Québec’s architectural wonders, history and incredible landscape by way of national parks and whale watching in the St. Lawrence River.
Zambia Safari: Exclusive Camps & Bush Walks
Support the clean water effort in Africa on a Country Walking Tour through Zambia. In partnership with Charity Begins Home, Country Walkers (and guests) support local communities and wildlife while venturing through Zambia’s wild natural landscape. Guests enjoy light walking days observing wildlife in its natural habitat, learning about local communities and from expert naturalists as they guide guests through the deep bush, Zambian plains, on safari and much more.
