Fall may be in full swing, but that is no reason to give up on a sun-drenched family vacay … and you don’t even have to leave the country to do it. Florida’s Martin County, nestled along the Treasure Coast, is the perfect place for families to enjoy beautiful weather and activities for everyone, any time of year.
Martin County is located in southeastern Florida between the Atlantic Ocean and Lake Okeechobee. There are 10 different communities in the county, each offering its own laid-back vibe. One such community is Stuart, not only known as Sailfish Capital of the World, but also named Best Coastal Small Town in 2024 by USA Today. There are more than 22 miles of sandy white beaches to discover and more than 100,000 acres of parks and conservation lands to explore, along with plenty of fun activities.
The county has a four-story height restriction on buildings, so every place you visit within Martin County will have that relaxed, small-town feel. While you’re there, you can take part in quintessential Florida activities like fishing or hitting the beach for swimming or water sports, but you can also explore the region from a sustainable standpoint to teach kids about the importance of caring for the world around them while they have fun. There are opportunities to volunteer so you and the kids can give back during your stay, or you can take part in one of the free guided ecotour programs focusing on showcasing the beauty of native landscapes and wilderness without leaving any traces other than footprints.
Before heading to Martin County, get the kids involved in planning the family’s vacation by watching the For Kids By Kids Martin County Florida series on YouTube, where kids share first-hand info on what to see and do from a kid-centric perspective in Martin County. There are videos in the series for both kids and teens to give them insight into fun activities they can do on vacation, like visiting Sailfish Splash Waterpark, learning how to surf or paddleboard, and exploring Florida Oceanographic Coastal Center from a kids’-eye view.
