When spring is in full bloom and mom deserves to be celebrated, it’s hard to resist planning a trip around the beautiful flower displays found across the country. If you aren’t sure where to start, the Brandywine Valley, which stretches across parts of Delaware and Pennsylvania, is home to some of the country’s most beautiful landscapes, along with incredible flower gardens perfect for celebrating both moms and spring.
Nemours Estate, in Wilmington, Delaware, is home to the largest French gardens in North America. There are 200 acres of woodlands and formal gardens filled with beautiful flowers to explore by taking a self-guided tour, but while you’re there, you’ll also want to check out the Versailles-inspired mansion, along with the chauffer’s garage and its collection of vintage cars.
Longwood Gardens, in Kennett Square, Pennsylvania, is home to more than 10,000 plant varieties and attractions. It is considered one of the country’s premier botanical gardens and, with spring in full bloom, they are expecting more than 150,000 beautiful tulips and other spring favorites alongside the flowering trees that decorate the gardens. There is a 600-foot flower garden walk that winds through gardens, making it the perfect place for a Mother’s Day stroll or simply a walk in the fresh air. If Mother’s Day isn’t in your plans for Longwood, you have until Sept. 27 to enjoy the Festival of Fountains. You can explore the beautiful flower gardens by day and then stick around to catch the evening performance of 1,719 water jets coordinated to music and light.
