There is plenty to see and do in Tokyo, Japan, from heading to the top of Tokyo Skytree for incredible views of the city to shopping and sampling local foods in the city’s iconic Tokyo Station. And, of course, there is the infamous Shibuya Scramble Crossing, the incredible Senso-ji temple compound in the heart of the Asakusa neighborhood, and the historic Imperial Palace, but in between all these sites and activities, there are a few must-see museums family travelers won’t want to miss.
Tokyo National Museum
If you want a single place to experience the world’s largest collection of Japanese art and artifacts, Tokyo National Museum is the place to do it. The museum is constantly rotating its exhibits, so if your family has visited this attraction before, it’s worth another visit. In addition to the centuries of history housed in the museum, there are also plenty of kid-friendly exhibits and a fun play space for little ones.
National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation
Also known as Miraikan, this museum has exhibits on everything from computers and robots to life science. It celebrates learning, creativity and technology in a way that not only teaches kids but also gets them excited for their own journeys as they head toward their future. There are plenty of interactive exhibits for the whole family to enjoy, along with opportunities to participate in actual experiments and ongoing research in the Future Lab.
Kidzania
Kidzania is designed specifically for younger members of the family and, like most children’s museums, it is a place for them to learn through play. Exhibits are fun, colorful and fully interactive, and you can book your experience in English with an English-speaking guide to walk your family through the whole attraction.
