Some of us are still trying to stretch out the dog days of summer, but there is no denying fall will be here soon. Whether ready for it or not, it’s time to look for ways to welcome the season that will be fun for the family. Luckily, New York’s Finger Lakes region has plenty of ways to do just that.
HARVEST in Corning
Fall harvest festivals are always a great time for families, and in the Finger Lakes, you’ll find one in the city of Corning on Sept. 18 and 19. The festival takes place in Downtown Corning along Market Street, an area known as the Gaffer District. The historic street is closed off for the festival, making it a safe and fun environment for families with littles to explore local vendors offering food, handicrafts and live entertainment.
Wings and Wheels Seaplane and Car Show
Car shows happen just about everywhere, all year long, but in fall, the city of Hammondsport welcomes visitors to check out the best local automobiles, along with vintage seaplanes. This event, which will take place on Sept. 19, celebrates the legacy of an aviation and motorcycling pioneer by the name of Glenn H. Curtiss, and it’s a great opportunity for the kids to learn about some of the country’s transportation history along with local history, all while you enjoy the beautiful scenery of the Finger Lakes region.
Fall Festival at Pick ‘n Patch
The harvest festival and seaplane and car show may require you to narrow down your visit to specific dates, but the Fall Festival at Pick ’n Patch in Stanley is hosting a fall-themed festival that lasts from now until Oct. 31. There will be activities for the whole family, along with plenty of unique treats to show off the flavors of the season, like fresh-baked cider donuts, maple cotton candy and pumpkin pizza — and of course, some spiked cider mules for the adults in the family.
