Adventures on the Gorge, the leading river rafting outfitter in southern West Virginia, offers family travelers a free rafting program for kids. Kids Raft Free is available six days a week for children ages 11 and younger with a paying adult. The program is available on the edge of New River Gorge National Park and Preserve on the New and Gauley rivers.
“Rafting checks off so many boxes for parents and their kids looking for active outdoor adventures,” said Roger Wilson, CEO, Adventures on the Gorge. “It gives us great pleasure to witness families sharing a paddling adventure, and we know those families will long remember and retell stories of their day on the river.”
The Upper New River Full-Day Whitewater Rafting experience costs $114 for adults and is free for children ages 6–11, every day except Saturday. The rafting season kicks off May 8. The rapids offer opportunities for first-time or experienced rafters. The full-day trip includes up to six hours of river time, plus a nourishing lunch.
While kids ages 12 and older cannot participate in the free rafting program, there are plenty of opportunities for them to explore the river on a rafting experience. Kids ages 12 and older can raft for half-price on Saturday with a paying adult. They also may take on bigger and more challenging rapids.
