Give Back With the Family

Looking for a way to give back this season? Here are five voluntourism efforts you and your family can participate in via Solmar Hotels & Resorts’ charitable Donations in Actions Foundation, which sponsors more than 30 charitable organizations in Baja California Sur.

Year-round activities include:

• Food drives and hands-on activities: Participating in a family food drive can be a recipe for family bonding that will generate lasting memories. Guests can participate in all phases of the drive, from packing to serving food. In addition, volunteers can join in such hands-on service activities as painting, carpentry and repairing houses.
• Bring a Thing drive: For parents looking to teach their children the satisfaction of giving back, the Solmar Foundation accepts the donation of school supplies, toys and clothing for babies, children and women for distribution to schools, orphanages and other charity organizations.
• Helping Hands tour: Visitors who want to get a behind-the-scenes look at the daily operations of the Foundation can join the Helping Hands tour, which includes visits to four organizations: San Juan Diego Shelter, San Miguel Nursing Home, Cabo San Lucas Orphanage and Ninos del Capitan. Complimentary weekly tours take place every Wednesday and Thursday 9–11 a.m.
• Facebook donations: Families who want to continue their charitable contributions to the foundations can keep up with Solmar Foundation via its Facebook page, stay abreast of news and events and make donations directly online through the Facebook of the Foundation’s website.
• Optional donations: Another easy way to give back is to take advantage of an optional $10 donation to the Foundation at checkout, which you can simply add to your final bill. Donations of higher amounts are also accepted through arrangements with the front desk.

Solmar Hotels & Resorts
