Did you know Wyoming is home to ghost towns and hotels with ghostly sightings? Family travelers looking for a spooky-inspired vacation this season should look no further than this state. But where to start?

TA Ranch © Travel Wyoming
Considered one of the most haunted places in the area, this Smithsonian Institute National Historic Landmark was the site of the Siege of the TA Ranch, April 11–13, 1892. This siege marked the climax of the Johnson County War. Today, take a tour of TA Ranch’s most haunted locations and witness live reenactors of figures said to still haunt the property.
Kirwin
Located along the Wood River near Meeteetse, Kirwin is one of the most interesting abandoned places in the state. In the 1890s, the town featured 28 buildings and about 200 residents, most of whom came during the area’s gold and silver boom. A 1907 winter storm and avalanche began the town’s eventual abandonment. In the 1930s, the town was visited by Amelia Earhart and her husband, and a cabin was even constructed for the pilot before she disappeared in 1937. For the most unique visit of Kirwin, book a private tour or hop on an ATV for an off-road adventure. Whatever way you decide to experience this town, expect small log structures, mining machinery and an old hotel.

Buffalo Bill opened this hotel in 1902. Situated in Cody, he named the hotel after his daughter, who died of influenza and pneumonia when she was just 35 years old. As an old hotel, this property inevitably comes with haunted sightings. Room 35, known as the Paul Stock room, is one of the 15 original rooms and has been the scene of some ghostly stories. Room 16, meanwhile, has reportedly seen the apparition of Irma Cody Garlow sitting in a rocking chair.
