Travel Tips

April 23 marks the celebration of World Book Day. Staff at hotels around the world share their recommendations of books from their libraries to transport you to another place and time.

Casa Palopó

The 15-room boutique hotel in Guatemala offers guests a lending library filled with everything from classic novels to recent magazines. Learn more about the destination by borrowing a book about Guatemala or Mayan culture, including Popol Vuh, translated by Francisco Ximenez, and Los Nawales: The Ancient Ones Merchants, Wives and Lovers: The Creation Story of MaXimon by Vincent James Stanzione.

Hotel Rangá

Located in South Iceland, the 52-room Hotel Rangá is a perfect property for guests looking to enjoy a secluded getaway. The hotel features a library for guests of curated titles, including those selected by Hotel Rangá staff. Many of the recommended books are from Icelandic authors including Independent People by Halldór Laxness, Karitas, Untitled by Kristín Marja Baldursdóttir and The Flatey Enigma (Flateyjargáta) by Viktor Arnar Ingólfsson.

Il Salviatino

The villa in Tuscany features more than 4,000 works across a variety of genres in its luxurious library. Some popular titles housed in the library include A Room with a View by E.M. Forster, The Inspector Bordelli novels by Marco Vichi and Le Ragazze di San Frediano by Vasco Pratolini.

Jade Mountain Resort

St. Lucia’s luxury property features stunning views of the Piton Mountains and the Caribbean Sea. Read Caribbean by James A. Michener to learn more about the history of the Caribbean region.
