Destinations / North America

With the school year ending, kids prepare for the best summer ever. Swap out backpacks for suitcases and head to Virginia Beach with the whole family.

Virginia Beach offers a variety of fun activities for families to enjoy, as well as 38 miles of sun- soaked shoreline along the Atlantic Ocean. From outdoor activities to delicious dining and more, this destination has something for everyone.

Kick off the trip by spending the day at beautiful beaches, where the family can build sandcastles, play beach games and splash around in the waves. Try something new and take surfing lessons or send the kids to one of the many beach playgrounds, including the 15,000-square-foot Grommet Island Park, a wheelchair accessible park for everyone to enjoy.

For other water adventures, head to Ocean Breeze Waterpark and pick from a variety of activities like thrilling water slides, floating in the lazy river or making a splash in the wave pool.

If you are looking to explore more of the area, head to Back Bay National Wildlife Refuge for a kayak or paddleboard tour, where you can get up close to the wildlife and learn about the unique ecosystem. Or set out on the ocean for a boat tour to spot dolphins in their natural habitat.

After spending some time at the beach, venture to First Landing State Park for a variety of hiking and biking trails throughout the scenic forests and marshes. Test the family’s bravery at Adventure Park, where you can climb and zip through the treetops.

Other can’t-miss attractions include Military Aviation Museum, The Cape Henry Lighthouse, The Virginia Aquarium & Marine Science Center and King Neptune Statue.
