Destinations / Caribbean

Looking for an under-the-radar destination for summer family travel? Look no further than the serene island of Dominica. Often referred to as the “nature island,” Dominica is far from the bustling crowds and offers lush rain forests and cascading waterfalls, providing families with a natural playground full of adventure.

While there, stay at Secret Bay. Families staying there can explore the island’s vibrant and healthy coral reefs while snorkeling; explore the hiking trails on horseback; visit the volcanic springs, waterfalls and lakes; set out on whale-watching expeditions; zip line above the trees; and explore national parks. Kids and young adults can also choose from a variety of unique excursions and educational opportunities, including immersive cooking classes, river tubing and exploring nature trails with ornithologist Dr. Birdy.

Secret Bay just unveiled the new ultra-luxe Ti-Fèy+ Villas. Designed with multigenerational families in mind, these three-story, 2.5-bedroom villas feature floor-to-ceiling glass walls, a private plunge pool, outdoor rain shower and a state-of-the-art chef’s kitchen.

Fans of the popular Disney movie franchise Pirates of the Caribbean can head off property to visit Valley of Desolation and Hampstead Beach where scenes from Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man’s Chest were filmed. You can even book a tour to see the swimming hole, Titou Gorge, best known for the scene where Captain Jack Sparrow and Will Turner fall down the gorge into a cage.
