The nation’s leading medical flight charity and one of the few services of its kind, Miracle Flights is gaining speed in the most encouraging way possible. Miracle Flights is a nonprofit organization providing free medical air transportation for children, adults and families in need with commercial airlines throughout the United States. With more than 30 years in the industry, Miracle Flights has provided more than 123,000 flights and counting, with record flights flown in February — 722, to be exact.
announced it provided a total of 722 free commercial flights for critically ill children and families in need of life-saving and -changing medical treatments in February 2019 alone. This staggering number is actually 17 percent higher than the previous year, with 617 free flights in February 2018. Moreover, the 2019 flight count for February is nearly 31 percent higher than the flight count of 552 in February 2017. It seems awareness for Miracle Flights is trending up.
The organization began in 1985 and has since flown some 70 million miles, connecting children in need to medical care they can’t get at home or in a reasonable drive from their local community.
According to Mark E. Brown, CEO, Miracle Flights, flight increases seem to be from a growing support and awareness of the Las Vegas-based national nonprofit.
“Word-of-mouth continues to be the primary way families hear about Miracle Flights as a resource to ease their financial burden of medical travel, which is a cost no private insurance company covers,” said Brown. “As we broaden the network of families we serve and partners who support our cause, we continue to see growth in the number of patients we fly, each month. That said, we never lose sight that for every family we serve, there are others still in need. We are always on a mission to reach those families.”
In addition to doling out more flights each year, Miracle Flights partnered with Lovepop, a 3-D card-printing company, for national Rare Disease Day, Feb. 28. Lovepop donated a portion of its proceeds from all 11 specially designed Lovepop Bear pop-up cards to Miracle Flights’ mission. The donations continue through the end of the year with $1 from every Love Bear card sold going back to Miracle Flights.
