Solar eclipses offer an amazing opportunity to experience a rare natural occurrence, and in recent years, family travelers have been taking advantage of the chance to combine these events with incredible vacations that are both educational and fun. But if the past few eclipses have taught us anything, it’s we have to plan ahead if we want to see the spectacle in style.

With hotel rooms and campgrounds booking out months in advance, planning an eclipse-viewing vacation needs to start as early as possible, especially for a unique viewing experience like the eclipse cruises offered from Princess Cruises for 2026. With the path of totality falling across countries like Greenland, Iceland and Spain, there is ample opportunity for cruise ships to position themselves for perfect viewing of the phenomenon, and Princess has managed to re-work several of its itineraries to do just that.

These multi-day itineraries will not only put you in the right place at the right time on Aug. 12, 2026, but Princess has also curated these itineraries to deliver a full experience that includes themed beverages and snacks, astronomy lectures, solar system trivia activities, and nighttime stargazing activities.

The duration of totality for this eclipse is expected to be a little more than two minutes, but combining the experience with a cruise will make the time and money spent traveling to see it well worth it. While the focus may be on nature’s big show, there will be plenty of time to enjoy bucket-list experiences in ports of call like Sicily, Naples, Barcelona, Mykonos and Santorini, just to name a few. The itineraries range from seven to 21 days, and sail from Rome, Athens and Barcelona.

Neos Airlines Provides Amenity Kits for Kids

Children’s programming and games are standard on most transcontinental flights, and Neos Airlines is no exception. While the Italian carrier is relatively new to the U.S. market, launching its first New York (JFK)–Milan (MXP) flights in 2021, it now counts Rome (FCO); Palermo (PMO); and Bari, Puglia (BRI) (as of June 2025) as destinations from New York. It has also established a niche as an affordable carrier with premium attributes and a soft spot for family travelers.
