My children and I travel to Europe frequently. For many of our trips, we take Icelandair. Icelandair is comfortable and affordable. Additionally, they offer excellent connectivity between several cities in the United States and European hot spots. Even better, the airline offers perks for families, including discounted fares for children, activity boxes and special meals.
One massive perk of flying Icelandair is its stopover program. On Icelandair’s trans-Atlantic flights, passengers can choose to stay in Iceland for a day or two, up to a full week at no extra charge. The stopover program helps break up long trips for my family.
Plus, we have grown to love Iceland and our stops there. The city is full of family-friendly activities, such as the Lava Show, Flyover Iceland, soaking in the Blue Lagoon and whale watching. My kids love standing between two continents in Iceland.
Close to the airport, visit the Bridge Between Two Continents or Thingvellir National Park, a short drive from downtown Reykjavik, to walk between the tectonic plates. On longer stays, families can go on hikes or explore volcanic craters. No matter how long you stay in Iceland, be sure to try an Icelandic hot dog and homemade ice cream before you leave.
