This State Park Named Best in the Country

There are state parks all over the country, but according to USA Today’s 10 Best, you’ll find the best one in Minnesota. Gooseberry Falls State Park beat out nearly 10,000 other state parks for the title — and for good reason. It is an outdoor lover’s dream come true, with 18 miles of trails, spectacular scenery and fun activities for every season.

The park is located along the north shore of Lake Superior in the town of Two Harbors. At just less than an hour from Duluth International Airport, getting there is simple. At the park you can camp so the family gets the whole experience, or you can simply spend a day hiking or biking.

The park is full of a variety of native trees, like spruce, aspen and pine, as well as an impressive number of birds and animals, so there is plenty to see during the warmer months of the year. The biggest draw, however, are the falls the park is named after. Five waterfalls cascade over volcanic rock, creating a stunning scene as the water pours into Lake Superior. The falls can be viewed anytime of year, although during the winter months, you might be looking at frozen ice sculptures rather than flowing water.
