Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit now offers a new, 90-minute Mexican Doll Workshop perfect for families. Children are invited to design their own Mexican rag doll using colored ribbons and fabrics. Offering a unique bonding experience for families, the workshop also supports the local community and honors the indigenous women who started the craft.
Known as marias, the dolls originated in the state of Querétaro by Otomí and Mazahua indigenous women. The dolls were intended to protect children from evil spirits, and feature indigenous dress, braids and colors. Today, the toys are ubiquitous throughout the country and are popular among children.
The Mexican Doll Workshop costs $60 per person and can be booked through the resort concierge. Other unique, family-friendly offerings at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit include an Alebrijes Workshop to make signature spirit animal crafts, a baby concierge, gourmet baby food and luxury poolside amenities for kids.
Nightly rates at Grand Velas Riviera Nayarit begin at $373 per adult, and include luxury accommodations, a la carte meals at a variety of specialty restaurants, premium branded beverages, 24-hour in-suite service, taxes, gratuity and more.
