Washington, D.C., has long been a family favorite thanks to its numerous attractions showcasing the country’s history and culture, and its newest attraction is sure to keep that tradition going strong. People’s House: A White House Experience, debuting this month, is a brand-new attraction displaying the incredible history of one of the country’s most important institutions, the White House.
This attraction is expected to be unveiled Sept. 23 and come with the added benefit of free admission, giving the nation’s capital even more appeal for visiting families. Located at 1700 Pennsylvania Ave., visitors can experience the exhibit in October with the building’s history, including that of the architecture; the people who worked there throughout its timeline; and the impact the building and its inhabitants have had.
With replicas of the south façade of the building and the Oval Office (where yes, you can have a seat at the Resolute Desk, even if it isn’t the real one!), you can explore the White House from an up-close perspective, but you will also be able to learn the fascinating political history of our country through state-of-the-art projection and display technologies. The Rose Garden, Cabinet Room and more are all represented, giving visitors a chance to not just see the White House but also experience what it is like attending an event or meeting there.
Exhibits displayed within People’s House are permanent, year-round displays, but interactive technologies allow for unique experiences depending on what you are interested in. For example, in the People’s Voices Gallery, framed digital portraits of White House staff members throughout the years come to life to give you their unique perspectives on holding a non-political position inside this historic building. In the Immersive Theater, you can visit different rooms like the East Room, Green Room or even the State Dining Room through an immersive projection display and gesture at different objects of your choice to learn the details.
This interactive experience is a great way to introduce kids to some of the innermost workings of the country’s government in a space designed to bring visitors closer to the political pulse of our country. By shedding light on our history and demonstrating how the government and country were designed for the people, it will leave kids with a deeper understanding of how politics is intertwined with the country’s history.
