Where to Stay for Your Next Family Trip to Philadelphia

Hotels

Always a popular destination for family travelers, Philadelphia is rich in culture, history, sports, food and more. But where to stay with the family?

Amongst the many upscale and boutique hotels in the city is Kimpton Hotel Palomar. I booked Kimpton Hotel Palomar due to its location in the heart of Center City — just off Samson Street, which is full of great restaurants, and a few blocks from City Hall. I parked around the corner; there are many options, and the hotel is also close to public transportation.

I admired the lobby renovations that took place not too long ago, making this a hidden gem with a real Philadelphia feel. The doorman greeted me and held my bags, as I arrived in the morning before check- in. When I returned in the afternoon, check-in was swift with a friendly front desk team offering water and help with questions.

I had a lovely King Bedroom Studio Suite, which featured a separate bedroom and sitting area with a convenient work station, a sofa and comfortable chair, and a large, flat-screen TV.

The bedroom held a king-sized bed with two end tables and yet another sitting area with a comfortable chair. The bed and bedding were comfortable, and I appreciated the restful sleep.

The spacious bathroom featured a marble top on a single sunken sink and a large, walk-in, tiled shower with a glass front and door.

Make sure you take the opportunity to visit Square 1682, so named to honor William Penn, the founding father of Pennsylvania and Philadelphia. Penn created Rittenhouse Square and four other plazas in Philadelphia to encourage open space in Center City. Chef Patrick Czerniak, executive chef, Square 1682, has created “approachable cuisine in an upbeat ambiance” — for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I also suggest checking out happy hour at the bar, a local favorite Tuesday–Saturday, 5–7 p.m.

The hotel makes bikes available; provides yoga mats in every room; and offers something all hotels should have: the “forgot it, we got it” program, which offers everything you might have forgotten or lost, such as mobile phone chargers, lip balm, coffeemaker, curling iron, deodorant and much more.

Get Ready for World Cup at This Interactive Soccer Experience in Dallas

If your family is excited about the FIFA World Cup, you aren’t alone. The buzz has been building, and the first matches are right around the corner. If you can’t afford pricey tickets to see any matches in person, you can still enjoy the spirit of the sport in Dallas, Texas.

Best of Both Worlds

Enjoy the best of both worlds when you fly with TAP Air Portugal thanks to the Portugal Stopover program. With the program, TAP passengers, whether traveling for business, leisure or both, can stop in Portugal for up to 10 days at no additional airfare on the way to their final destination. What does this mean for travelers wishing to explore by both land and sea? It means after flying to Portugal with TAP and experiencing the country in an entirely new way, travelers can then embark on scenic river and ocean cruises from  Portugal’s port cities, or fly with TAP to another European destination.

Where to Watch Fireworks in New Hampshire’s White Mountains

Watching fireworks in New Hampshire’s White Mountains is nothing like watching displays in a city. Under dark skies with only the faint silhouettes of mountains and miles of dark forests as a backdrop, the landscape becomes a canvas for dazzling displays. And you can enjoy them without a stiff neck from looking straight up at the sky.
