Where to Watch Fireworks in New Hampshire’s White Mountains

Destinations / North America

Watching fireworks in New Hampshire’s White Mountains is nothing like watching displays in a city. Under dark skies with only the faint silhouettes of mountains and miles of dark forests as a backdrop, the landscape becomes a canvas for dazzling displays. And you can enjoy them without a stiff neck from looking straight up at the sky.

In addition to watching dazzling pyrotechnics under starry skies in a theater of mountainsides, families can join locals in celebrations filled with down-home fun. Your family can join low-key, community-driven parades, parties and performances representing the best features of small-town life in America.

The neighboring towns of Lincoln and Woodstock join for one of the region’s best fireworks shows, with a day of festivities, live music, food trucks and picnics in Cascade Park. The fun starts at 11 a.m. with a cookout in Soldiers Park, sponsored by the Rotary Club. At 2 p.m., a Patriotic Parade begins in North Woodstock and continues into Lincoln with floats and marching bands. Children under 12 who participate in the parade will receive a free patriotic goodie bag.

A bit farther north, the smaller town of Sugar Hill takes advantage of its wide-open hilltop fields for a fireworks display. Woodstock, Sugar Hill and the larger town of Littleton are easy to reach from Interstate 93. Littleton will celebrate America’s 250th on the previous weekend, June 27, with live music, family activities, local crafts, food vendors, sports and games, culminating in a fireworks display.

At the other side of the White Mountains, Conway and North Conway are the center of July 4 activity, beginning with a parade in Conway Village at 1:15 p.m. Activities then move to North Conway’s Schouler Park for an afternoon of band performances that culminates with the 39th Army National Guard Band concert at 7:45 p.m. The expansive park provides plenty of space for full views of the fireworks that begin at 9:45 p.m.

Perhaps the most spectacular setting for fireworks is the natural arena formed by Mount Washington and the Presidential Range, which provides the backdrop for the dazzling display at Onmi Mount Washington Resort & Spa in Bretton Woods. While only hotel guests can view them from the resort grounds, the longer view from Route 302 overlooks is spectacular, too. Families staying in vacation homes or cabins at Bretton Woods Vacations, on the opposite side of Route 302, have grandstand views of the fireworks from the property.

Best of Both Worlds

Enjoy the best of both worlds when you fly with TAP Air Portugal thanks to the Portugal Stopover program. With the program, TAP passengers, whether traveling for business, leisure or both, can stop in Portugal for up to 10 days at no additional airfare on the way to their final destination. What does this mean for travelers wishing to explore by both land and sea? It means after flying to Portugal with TAP and experiencing the country in an entirely new way, travelers can then embark on scenic river and ocean cruises from  Portugal’s port cities, or fly with TAP to another European destination.
