With summer coming to a close, there are still opportunities for family travelers to savor the season. Check out these festivals across the country before fall officially begins.

 

Canton Labor Day

Canton Labor Day Festival
Labor Day weekend typically marks the unofficial end of summer. Canton, North Carolina’s, annual end-of-summer bash is the oldest Labor Day festival in the south. On Sept. 1–2, celebrate with drinks from local breweries, live music, food vendors and goods from local artisans.

International Fireworks Championship
In its second year, the event in Traverse City, Michigan, hosts expert pyrotechnic teams from around the world in a competition for the best fireworks display. The two-day event will take place Sept. 6–7 at Turtle Creek Stadium.

 

Plaza Art Fair

Plaza Art Fair
Kansas City, Missouri, is home to the 93rd annual Plaza Art Fair. Held Sept. 20–22, the massive art event takes over nine city blocks with more than 240 artists. The event also features food booths and live music.

 

The James Beard Foundation’s Taste America
The nationwide, year-long culinary event offers foodie travelers a few more opportunities before summer’s end. Taste America: Houston, Texas, features a tasting at Four Seasons Hotel Houston Sept. 12. Taste America: Washington, D.C., takes place on Sept. 16 at Maketto. Taste America: Portland, Oregon, highlights dishes from local Portland chefs on Sept. 26.

Share Miles with Family and Friends with United Airlines

As you look ahead to winter travel, United Airlines and its MileagePlus loyalty program introduced MileagePlus miles pooling, which allows members to contribute and combine miles into a joint account. Groups of up to five members can now share and redeem miles in one linked account. As the first and only major U.S. airline to offer this feature, United also allows any MileagePlus member, whether relatives or close friends, to be in a pool with other members.
