Earning a Super Bowl win (finally) and being named GQ’s City of the Year, Philadelphia had a pretty successful 2018. Looking ahead, 2019 isn’t going to be too shabby, either. With a long list of events, festivals and attractions beckoning visitors and families of all shapes and sizes, the City of Brotherly Love kicks off 2019 with a bang, foodie style.

Check out the first few months of foodie festivals in the city to keep the winter months warm with comfort food and drinks.

January

Restaurant Week in Philadelphia has been a long tradition of those sought-after restaurants becoming a bit more accessible to novice foodies, but Center City District Restaurant Week has come a long way. Now hosted twice a year, boasting 13 days of fine dining, foodie families head to the city for those $35 dinner and $20 lunch deals. Choose from tasting menus across the neighborhood and sample as many as you can Jan. 13–25, 2019, or come back for round two in September.

One quick and easy way to get the kids excited about a city vacation: Candy, and this time it’s all for a good cause. Kennett Chocolate Lovers Festival — “eat chocolate; do good” is the motto for this year’s festival, benefitting the Southern Chester County United Way. Taste a variety of chocolate treats from expert-level and amateur bakers Jan. 27, at Kennett High School. Adults, feel free to pair your chocolates with local brews and wines available at the event.

February

Each year, editors of Philadelphia Magazine

choose the city’s 50 best restaurants to be featured in the print issue. The highly-anticipated list is then brought to life through Philly Cooks, a Philadelphia Magazine event showcasing local talent from chefs and mixologists paired with live music and entertainment, Feb. 6.

This one may be more for the adult children in the family, but the Big Philly Beerfest

is a brew lover’s dream. Check out more than 125 breweries from near and far on tap, Feb. 15–16.

A local favorite, East Passyunk Restaurant Week offers the best of the best diners can find in South Philly. The foodie neighborhood has some of the best restaurants in the city, all lined up on one street. With more than 24 restaurants on East Passyunk Avenue alone, you’re bound to find a few for the whole family to enjoy.
